VHS - I Hate to Exercise I Love to Tap

Awesome for beginners, can't say enough. Gives plenty of practice and she faces you and says which foot to use while doing it with you which is super great. I have this video along with the "Ginger series" and that is a great combination because this one is really really beginner which may help greatly ones who feel the Ginger Series dvds starts a little past the beginning parts.

Bonnie is seriously a great teacher. She is not cold, snobby or too serious like a lot of dance teachers on videos and real life classes can be. She is warm and patient and makes you feel at ease when you are doing the video so that you feel like it's OKAY to stop, rewind and try again. In fact she even encourages it. At the end of each section, the words: Review, Rewind, Rest, Repeat are put on the screen to remind you to do just that!
I've had this video for 6 days now and have done it every day. In that short time I've mastered the floor routine and the waltz clog already! I can do about half of the soft shoe routine well but not nearly as fast as she can. I have very little dance experience and no tap dance experience so this was a whole new thing for me and I didn't know what to expect. But if you are like me, and love old musicals with Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers,Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor you will love this video!
She starts each section by performing the routine you will learn very fast. Then she takes each move out of the routine and teaches it to you very slowly with many repetitions, slowly putting all the moves ontop of eachother till you know the whole dance. A great thing about this video is that she does so many repetitions with you so you really KNOW the move before you go on to the next part.
The DVD itself is broken down very nicely. You can do the warm ups (Chair routine and Floor work), and then pick one of the 3 dances (Waltz Clog, TimeStep, Soft Shoe) to practice for a fun and great workout. The dances don't really build on eachother so it's not necessary to do them in order (though the Waltz Clog is definitely easier than the Time Step because it is slower and less complex in movement).
I really enjoy this dvd and only wish Bonnie would make intermediate and advanced videos! I can't wait till I can do all the routines as loose and fast as she does. Highly recommended!

This DVD is great for beginner and intermediate tap enthusiasts who want to practice at home. Bonnie Franklin is easy to follow and takes you through a progression of dance steps which you can review at your own leisure until you have mastered the steps. Dance instructions alone won't make you a tap dancer. You need to practice at home and this DVD makes it easy and fun. Have recommended to my tap dance friends who have also purchased the DVD.

I enjoy this DVD so much, even more than my weekly tap class!
Bonnie is a great instructor - she knows exactly what to remind the students (assuming they are beginners), which move needs more repetition, when to give encouragement...
No wonder this video is still selling after its first production 20+ years ago!

This video is just the right pace for the beginner or the professional. The elementary part is a great warm up for those that already know tap and the easy routines give the beginner a chance to learn an entire dance and not just steps.
