I did not become aware of this series until a friend recommended it. I ordered season one because i was hooked on what had happened in the past with the characters. The show is awesome! It is a wonderful period piece of the late fifties/early sixties with complex characters and a spellbinding scripts for each episode.

I finally got to see what all the fuss is about but I wasn't expecting Peyton Place. The acting is great and every word uttered is clever. Other than that, I found an assortment of mostly dislikable people in a 60s setting, with the negatives amped up to 10. Those who lived through the period will recall that much of what went on was not malicious, it was institutionalized. Like smoking, a lot of people just didn't know any better.

Who doesn't love a good period drama? I'm certainly not such a person, so upon hearing the idea of a cable series set on the Madison Avenue advertising scene as the nation stood on the cusp of the 1960s had enormous appeal.
