Description: Return to the days that sparked the American Revolution, now on Disney DVD for the first time! Meet young Johnny Tremain, a silversmith's apprentice with dreams of learning the trade and making his own way. When a terrible injury ends his hopes, he joins the emerging Sons Of Liberty. The Redcoats are coming as you journey back to the Boston Tea Party, the midnight ride of Paul Revere, and Lexington Green, where tyranny was vanquished by an idea -- freedom for all! Based on the classic novel by Esther Forbes, you won't want to miss one historic moment of Disney's classic adventure and liberty's rising light.
Amazon.com: Looking for a way to make the American Revolution come alive for your child? Based on Esther Forbes's book of the same name, Johnny Tremain takes place in Boston from July 1773 through April 1775, and tells the story of a young apprentice silversmith drawn into a fight for human rights. When an accident cripples Johnny Tremain's hand and ends his hopes of becoming a great silversmith, Tremain finds himself without work and accused of a crime he did not commit. Sons of Liberty members Paul Revere and Josiah Quincy are outraged by the circumstantial case against Tremain, agree to represent him free of charge, and win his acquittal in court. Through association with his new friends, Tremain begins to better understand the current political climate, and eventually joins them in the battle for freedom. Tremain's involvement in the emptying of British tea into Boston Harbor, the arrival of the Redcoats in Boston, and the beginnings of the American Revolution at Concord is powerful and moving. The costuming is splendid, the music patriotic, and the dialogue well crafted. The film stars Hal Stalmaster as Johnny Tremain, costars Luana Patten and Jeff York, and runs 80 minutes. This classic Disney film is wonderful entertainment and a fairly faithful representation of a crucial period in American history. (Ages 8 and older) --Tami Horiuchi

Johnny Tremain was a tiny Disney movie on early American History (or was it myth?). Yet it captured the minds and hearts of kids and adults of the time and helped spread some historic culture throughout the land.
Having said that, the modern perspective of things has changed all this and by today's standards it is at best a nice little adventure movie, but nothing more.
Many inaccuracies and liberties with historic fact have made it into what it is: a nice escapist movie. ... Read More

Johnny Tremain, originally came out when I was 10 years old and I hadn't seen it since then! It was fun to go back and see it at age 61! They don't make many pictures like this, great family entertainment! But you always expect that from Walt Disney!

I have loved this movie since I was a kid. I used to watch it on Disney channel every 4th of July. They always played it for America's birthday. I am sad my kids cannot watch it on Disney channel anymore, but they can watch it whenever they want now. Great story line.

I saw this movie when it first came out. I was fourteen years old and I thought Hal Stalmaster was really cool. I got to thinking about the movie again recently after watching the series "John Adams" on television, so I ordered it. Now, fifty years later, I see it as sort of a kids' movie that doesn't have a lot of depth. I'm glad I saw it again, but I can understand why Hal Stalmaster decided to give up acting. However, I would love to know what happened to him. I've googled him every which way and ... Read More

I like old "hokey" Disney movies. This one fits that dynamic in some senses of the word, but it also provides a historical aspect that is very refreshing. I think a lot of times movies feel obligated to include as much obscenity and violence as possible in the name of authenticity. This movie has nothing of that.
If you are a patriotic American at all, I think you will like this film. It includes the "one if by land, two if by sea" story, the Boston Tea Party, and Paul Revere's ride--all ... Read More
