Product Description: Congratulations! You have a new baby. Don’t forget you also have a marriage.
Having a baby is a joyous experience, but even the best relationships are strained during the transition from duo to trio. In And Baby Makes Three, Love Lab™ experts John Gottman and Julie Schwartz Gottman teach couples the skills needed to maintain healthy marriages, so partners can avoid the pitfalls of parenthood by:
• Focusing on intimacy and romance • Replacing an atmosphere of criticism and irritability with one of appreciation • Preventing postpartum depression • Creating a home environment that nurtures physical, emotional, and mental health, as well as cognitive and behavioral development for your baby
Complete with exercises that separate the “master” from the “disaster” couples, And Baby Makes Three helps new parents positively manage the strain that comes along with their bundle of joy.

My husband and I attended the Bringing Baby Home workshop, developed from this book, and I enjoy the text perhaps even more. Gottman's discussion about the origin of the concept of "spoiling" was fascinating and revealing about our culture and the historical influence behind some prevalent parenting theories. Gottman provides couples the tools, information, and the inpiration to stay bonded to each other and to become bonded to their babies. I found this book valuable and a wife, a pediatric nurse, ... The majority of couples have very serious relationship problems after the baby; it's amazing how much this can change things. So, you could use some advice, but there are a lot of books like this that, frankly, are full of hot air and one person's perspective. This book is based on objective research into new parent couples. That makes all the difference. The excercises/questionaires can be slightly dorky/difficult to talk through but it can make a big difference. Highly recommended.

The Gottmans have done it again. This is an excellent resource. I have read 5 other books by them and this one is 5 stars like the rest. There are some marriage principles from other books that bear repeating. There is also a lot about Baby's development and the couple's role in that. The last two chapters about Fathering and Creating a Legacy are fantastic. A must read for couples who are expecting and or even hoping to adopt. Gottman has been and continues to be my favorite realtionship expert! Do yourself ... Read More

This was a great read, and I'd recommend it to any couple who has young children or is about to have a baby. It has been so validating and helpful!

Gottman is a genius when it comes to male/female relationships. I purchased this books as a gift for my friend when she found out she was expecting. Unfortunately, we didn't learn of Gottman's writing until after our children were born and we were in marital counseling. I'm hoping this book will help her be better prepared for the permanent changes that happen when adding a baby into a marriage. Maybe they can save the money on counseling :-)
