Product Description: Fast talking rayford gibson and the conservative claude banks are accidentally teamed up to become the funniest odd couple east of the mississippi. When they travel south on a bootlegging run for some quick cash and get placed at the scene of a crime their comical misfortunes land them right in front of the judge. Studio: Uni Dist Corp. (mca) Release Date: 08/22/2006 Starring: Eddie Murphy Martin Lawrence Run time: 119 minutes Rating: R Director: Ted Demme
Amazon.com: Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy play it surprisingly straight in this film by director Ted Demme. Though there are laughs to be had, this is a story about perseverance in the face of a life of disappointment (yet the film was sold as a prison comedy). But Stir Crazy this isn't. Rather, Lawrence and Murphy play a couple of New Yorkers making a moonshine run from New York to Mississippi during the Prohibition who find themselves framed for murder and sentenced for life to a prison chain gang. As they age, the two become close friends, although the strait-laced Lawrence always resents the free-wheeling Murphy for getting him into the situation in the first place. Ultimately, these two men learn to find meaning where they can, taking value from friendship and their limited ability to affect the lives of others. At times preachy, it ends on an upbeat note; the film's biggest laughs are reserved for the final section, in which Lawrence and Murphy don age makeup and play octogenarians. --Marshall Fine

A drama, not a comedy. Sure there are a few laughs, but considering the amount of trajedy, death, and cruel treatment, this is far from a comedy. I don't consider "Cool Hand Luke" a comedy either, do you? This is however. a pretty decent story and if you can stand almost non-stop foul language (some people are under the false impression this makes them sound tough) it is worth a rental for adults only. The subject matter and language makes me recommend this to adults only. The story centers around ... Read More

This movie will definately go down as a classic. It never gets old. This movie is so heart felt but at the same time you can never stop laughing. Martin and Eddie give one of there best performances. Bernie Mac is also unbelievable. Black movies do not get enough credit! This movie is one of the best black comedies period! "You gon eat yo cone bread" I bust out laughing just saying it. ONELUV

This movie is perhaps Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence's Sistine Chapel. That is a bold statement but this movie is so funny and such a good, well made movie. There are endless funny moments in this movie. I might be being biased because I love timeline movies a lot (ex. FORREST GUMP). This movie will also make you cry from sadness and laughter. I laughed out loud many times and (ALMOST) cried from emotion.
The movie has an all-star cast as well which can sometimes be disastrous ... Read More
